Many years ago, my wife and I had seen "See Bruges and Die" at the cinema. I couldn't remember what the film was about. I remembered the film as being very harmonious. But the images of this wonderful city had stayed with me over the years. I always wanted to get to know this city myself. It wasn't until 2023 that we travelled to Bruges for the first time. Before the trip, we watched "In Bruges" again and I was amazed that the film is anything but harmonious and romantic. On the contrary: it is a rather brutal action film in parts. It is also shot in colour and not, as I remembered, in black and white, but the city was as beautiful as the image I remembered of it. With its winding alleyways, historic buildings and romantic canals, it offers a wealth of motifs. I spent a few days wandering around Bruges with my camera. I was enchanted by the beauty of the Gothic architecture. There are always interesting views of canals and squares or old houses. In my home town of Berlin, there is virtually no preserved old town centre. In this respect, it was a special attraction to walk through such a largely preserved old town centre. You also get a special view of Bruges on a boat trip across the canals.
