Our daughter lives in Austria with her boyfriend, so it made sense to combine a visit to her in April 2024 with a relaxing holiday in the picturesque region of South Tyrol. This region is known for its impressive hiking routes, which offer a variety of options. You can choose both challenging tours that require a lot of metres in altitude and relaxing hikes where you only cover a few hundred metres in altitude. The latter often run parallel to the Waalen, the traditional irrigation channels that meander through the landscape, and the breathtaking beauty of the landscape in South Tyrol is simply unrivalled.
The combination of majestic mountains and lush valleys creates a backdrop that invites you to marvel. In addition, the delicious Italian food makes the stay even more enjoyable. We were lucky enough to find a very nice hotel in Algund, very close to Meran. From our hotel window, we had a marvellous view of the imposing Dolomites. In April, there was still snow up to an altitude of around 1500 metres, which gave the landscape a special charm, and fortunately the area was not yet overrun by tourists at this time of year, so we were able to enjoy our hikes to the full.
