Winter

In recent years, the weather in Berlin has changed dramatically and real winters with a thick blanket of snow have become a rarity. It is now rather unusual for the snow to stay for long; it often melts again after just a few days. However, when it does snow, the city is transformed into a fascinating landscape in which everything is reduced to graphic structures. Such days are perfect for minimalist black and white shots, as the monochrome colour scheme emphasises the clear lines and shapes of the winter scenery, and I took the pictures you can see here in 2021. Black and white photography has a timeless quality that goes particularly well with the winter atmosphere.

Not far from my flat is a beautiful park where most of these pictures were taken. At that time, there was still a thatched house there, which can be seen in one of the pictures. Unfortunately, this house has since burnt down, which I very much regret. I had a special fondness for this building. It is now to be rebuilt, but unfortunately it will not have a thatched roof. This is unfortunate because this house forms a unit with the Dahlem-Dorf underground station and the underground station is still thatched. It would be nice if future generations also had the opportunity to experience and appreciate this historic building.
